What Are The Health Benefits Of The Keto Diet?

What are the health benefits of the keto diet?  The biggest benefit is weight loss and losing inches.  This has a knock on effect of bringing many health benefits, physically, mentally and psychologically.

Weight Loss and Losing Inches

The biggest health benefit is weight loss and losing inches which in turn effects your physical and mental health.

Weight loss and/or losing inches gives a powerful mental/psychological boost at your clothes fit better, in my case I was able to wear of a pair of grey trousers that I had not been able to fit into for about five years and they felt loose!   I lost 6.5kg within one year and very importantly have not put the weight back on.  I feel lighter, slimmer and feel happier in myself.

In my partner’s case he went down from extra large work trousers to large.  In shirt sizes he went from XXX large to large. My partner lost 12kgs within one year.

Lots of people have reported having to buy new jeans, underwear, etc. due to their dramatic weight loss.  One lady went down from size 20 to size 12 shorts within six months.

Weight Loss and Physical Health

Weight loss brings many health benefits – my partner was borderline diabetes 2 but at the end of one year his blood sugar readings have reduced dramatically and he was able to drop some of his medications.  Other people have come off their meds entirely saving money and time on hospital visits, doctor’s visits, prescriptions, etc but more importantly feeling elated that their health has improved.

High blood pressure, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, sleep apnea, plantar fasciitis and fatty liver disease which have all been eliminate or significantly improved on the keto diet.  Such people have also suffered from chronic pain due to the weight putting strain on their joints which has disappeared.

There are many other conditions that benefit from the keto diet such as allergies, asthma, autoimmune diseases, bipolar disorder, cancer, epilepsy, fibromyalgia, gallbladder disease, migraine, pco (polycystic ovarian syndrome). Perhaps the most uplifting testimonies are the ones where couples have been able to conceive after changing their diet.

Overcoming Addictions – Alcohol, Sugar And Carbs

Keto has also helped people successfully overcome addictions whether they be alcohol, carbohydrate or sugar addictions.

We have all read articles online of people having soda addictions, drinking soft drinks constantly throughout the day starting at breakfast!  Soda drinking is associated with diabetes, osteoporosis and other diseases.

People report consuming less alcohol as they notice they have less tolerance towards it.  Less alcohol means less carbs which leads to more weight loss, less alcohol means a better night’s sleep, ending a ‘problem’ relationship with alcohol, feeling even healthier overall.  Last but not least, saving money which would otherwise have been spent on beer/wine/spirits, etc.

Keto Is A Diet For Life

As you have read there are many health benefits to keto, some are relatively simple such as losing weight but there are bigger health benefits too, you can research these online as there is limitless information/testimonies available.

For me personally keto is a ‘no brainer’ and I would urge you to try the keto diet, see my reasons below:

The keto diet makes perfect sense to me as for years we have been told to shop around the outer part of the supermarket (where the healthier items are stocked such as vegetables, meat, fish and dairy) and to avoid the middle (where unhealthier items such as breakfast cereals, biscuits, cakes, crisps, etc. are stocked).

We have been warned against the dangers of sugar for years –   when my daughter was in primary school all those years ago I always remember being warned about the sugar content of Fruit Roll-Ups, my daughter remembers being one of the few children not allowed them in her lunchbox!

I also remember one Mother putting Muesli Bars in her daughter’s lunchbox as she thought they were healthy (as opposed to full of sugar), she felt awful as she had just been advised that her seven year old daughter had to have eight fillings by the dentist.

We have all read the danger to oral health of babies/young children drinking from a bottle filled with Ribena constantly throughout the day.  We have all seen the photographs too of their decayed, blackened teeth.

When I was a child (over forty years ago, ouch!) I used to eat breakfast cereal every day, I encouraged my two children to eat cereal every morning when they were young but now I have read so many articles on the high sugar content of sugar in my old favourites such as Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes.  My only consolation is the milk that I poured over my cereal contained calcium!

Knowledge is power, read all about keto and make an informed decision for yourself.  Lastly I want to emphasize that you can experience the benefits of a keto diet at any age, there are many people out there in their fifties as I am, there are people in their seventies, there are no barriers or age limits to eating healthier and improving your health and your life.
